Oregon CNA Classes

Oregon CNA Training

These days, a tough economy has made it difficult to find a new job, and many companies have stopped hiring new people unless they have very specific training and education. Many business experts have said that now is the best time to think about going back to school. Anyone who wants to make sure that there is an exciting, rewarding career waiting for them when they finish their education should definitely consider taking Oregon CNA classes.

In Oregon, there is a definite need for more medical professionals to help meet the demands of a growing population. Oregon CNA classes can help to prepare students to pursue a career as a certified nursing assistant while they continue to work at their current job or take care of their family.

Certified nursing assistants provide crucial support for doctors and nurses in a variety of health care settings. Following completion of these training courses and passing the national certification exam, CNAs can find work in a hospital, nursing home, or public health clinic.

Types of Oregon CNAs

In Oregon, there are different classes of CNA. There are separate certifications for both CNA 1 and CNA 2. An individual is eligible to take the CNA 1 exam in Oregon if he or she completed a national criminal background check and meets at least one of the following criteria:

  • The individual has completed an approved CNA training course within the last 2 years.
  • The individual has completed training as a military corpsman or medic and has had been paid for at least 400 hours of employment in a nursing related capacity.
  • The individual has graduated from an approved nursing program within the past 1 to 3 years.

The Oregon CNA 1 exam is comprised of two parts:

  • A written exam that is taken in a group setting
  • A manual skills exam that is performed in a clinical setting. Participants interact with actors who serve as the clients, and performance is judged by a registered nurse

In order to become a CNA 2, an individual must:

  • Hold an unencumbered CNA 1
  • Complete a nursing assistant level-2 CNA program approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing
  • Pass the CNA 2 competency evaluation
